Tyrone Rugen was a count who was responsible for the death of Domingo Montoya. After Domingo's death, his son, Inigo, swore revenge against Rugen. Later, after Rugen and Humperdinck took Westley hostage, Rugen rendered him mostly dead in the Pit of Despair. Soon after, Inigo and Fezzik retrieved Westley's body and revived him with a pill given to them by Miracle Max.
The trio then made their way to rescue Buttercup, who was about to be forced to wed Humperdinck. During the rescue, Inigo faced Rugen and killed him in a duel, avenging Domingo's death.
