Notes[edit | edit source]

Guilder's name presumably comes from the Dutch guilder, the currency of the Netherlands from the 16th century until 2002.

Its enemy nation, Florin, is also presumably named for the same coin. In the Netherlands, the word florin is synonymous with guilder. The guilder currency symbol is ƒ (letter f with a hook to the left) derived from florin. The same name, florin, also applies to the coins of many other nations at various times in history.
